There's not much out there that influenced my decision to be a part of skateboarding more than Big Brother Magazine. I remember my friend Dave in high school (he was from California and therefore immediately part of the industry) had a bunch of issues that he would bring to school and let me pour over them. I thought these guys were like the Lost Boys in Peter Pan. Running around, wrecking shop, doing whatever they wanted, and getting paid for it! While cleaning up the Christmas decorations this weekend, I came across my stash of Big Brother. Flipping through them, I could immediately remember where I was or what I was doing when that issue (or product advertised in that issue) came out. The Kids Issue (above) was especially crazy, as they were introducing the best kids under 18. Sheckler, Duffel, Hsu, Shaun White, Brent Ashley, Omar Salazar, Appleyard, Lenoce, and TNT were all fresh faced ams skating really puffy shoes. I scanned in the issues that I had from 1999, and posted them on my Flickr. I'll add more when I have time. Take a look, and if you have old issues that you want to contribute, let me know. I'd love to make this collection as complete as possible. Oh, and if you have a copy of, "Shit", go watch that too and remember that skateboarding used to be something you couldn't show on MTV.
